1) As you are filling the tank with water, take the nozzle off and shoot some plain water through the system to clean out any materials left in the pump from a previous job.
2) Finn the tank to about 1/2 full. Leave a small section of the agitator baldes above the water level. (about 2-3 inches).
3) Run the agitator to about 1/2 speed or more while adding materials.
4) Add seed to the mixture first.
5) Begin adding mulch 1 bale at a time. You may need to break mulch up as you are adding it, especially if you are using and older machine or jet agitated machine.
6) Make sure all mulch breaks up and goes into the slurry. Any chunks you see will potentially stop up the machine. You may need to speed up the agitator to achieve proper mixture. If your machine is equipped to run agitator in reverse, this will also help mix the slurry better.
7) As slurry thickens, begin adding water to finish filling the tank.
8) Put fertilizer and lime in last.
9) Make sure mulch is mixed well and that there are no chunks in it before beginning to shoot.
10) While shooting, run agitator at slower speed and in the forward position. Mulch should be moving away from pump on surface of slurry and towards the pump on the bottom.
11) When the gun sputtersthe first time as the tank is almost empty, shut off immediately. Continuing to pump after the first sputter will only pack mulch in the lines and stop up the machine.
12) Stand the gun straight up if possible and get back to a water source as soon as possible.
13) Fill the tank to about the 1 foot level with water, take the nozzle off the gun and shoot until all the solids are cleared from the pump and pipes.
14) Reload following the same procedures.
***Step 13 must be done immediately after each load including the last load before lunch and the last load of the day. Wood fiber expands when it dries and will setup almost like concrete if left in the pump and pipes longer than 15 or 20 minutes.
